rinnia: (oh yeah that's hot)
Just saw a Justin Beiber cardboard standee sitting in a lawn chair.

As a side note, yesterday I made dill pickles with garlic and jalapeno, caramel and caramel-filled apples, and pumpkin spice chocolate chip cookies from fresh pie pumpkin. I'm still tired.
rinnia: (oh yeah that's hot)
I dreamt I was teaching Anthony Bourdain how to make mayonnaise. Hm.

Try to call my psychologist? Voice mail.
Try to call my medical team? Voice mail. Which is full.
This is just a wee bit uncool.

Anyway.

Yesterday was Benny's birthday - my stupid pup is 3! I made him and Opal treats ), which they were very enthusiastic about. Jaime was eh on the cookies, but I enjoyed them. The dogs most certainly did - they hovered and hovered and hovered, just waiting for me to give them my cookie, even though they'd both just had their own. Greedy little mutts.

Trying to find boxes in which to send crafty goods to folks (still need your address, [livejournal.com profile] instrumentality!) and pondering what my next project will be. Real life is unfairly stressful at the moment; I'm kind of relying on hobbies to keep me moving and not just zoning out for hours. I acquired a bunch of old Barbies in fairly rough shape that I'm planning to rehab, but there are also doll clothes to sew, amigurumi and hats to crochet, threadless shirts to layout and draw, fics to write, original stories to write, figures to sculpt, comics to script... and yet I barely have enough energy to exist.

Bahhh, I'm not even sure what I'm trying to accomplish with this post. Document how dopily much I love my dogs and psyche myself up to actually do something, I guess. Maybe I'll write some drabbles.

Oh, and now that I know Kinder Surprise is illegal in America, I really want some. Stupid FDA.

Bad experiment results? Blown quiz? Bout of depression? All three in one day goddamn I hate my lot sometimes? I have the cure for you and your loved ones.

Sweet Uncertainty
4 oz. French Vanilla Kahlua
4 oz. vodka (Stoli preferred)
4 oz. milk
5 scoops vanilla ice cream
8 ice cubes
Blend it up until smooth, pour into two Pilsners for class, and share the bliss with your bff. Optional: Serve with giant pan of nachos and rainbow sprinkle sugar cookies.

Now to enjoy Simpsons and way-better-than-last-season American Idol. Oh, and Jaime got me potted tulips the other day! And they're blooming! If only work/school was as awesome as my home life.

rinnia: (what is this i don't even)
"Look at all of them, going to class. Which I don't even have anymore. That's pretty much my story - no class. Except for you. You're pretty classy. You're the classiest thing I've ever done BOOM, ROASTED!"

Hope everyone had a good day yesterday, celebrating Christmas or no. I, for one, am a huge fan of secular Christmas - forget the Jesus stuff, let's all give each other gifts and eat like pigs and make merry! In that spirit, here're some neat things I've stumbled across on the web recently.

- I'm not a big fanvid person; mostly I enjoy (warning: P4 spoilers in these three) weird Japanese AMVs and genre-altering trailers and I stay away from anything too shippy. Well, I had to make an exception - this Puck/Kurt fake trailer. It's so well done. Want.
- CROCHET FAIR ISLE. Seriously. I need to start doing this.
- Penny Arcade got into the seasonal spirit in the most logical of ways.
- Tom and Lorenzo reposted their fantastic White Christmas Musical Monday. Go rejoice in the ambiguously oriented glory of old musicals.
- If anyone's interested, here are some recipes we used. Granted, we changed pretty much all of them, but they're all good starting places nonetheless. Season's eatings!

rinnia: (foodin')
Prime rib with portabella mushroom/Cabernet Sauvignon au jus
Gorgonzola gold potatoes
Sauteed brussel sprouts with bacon
Chevre/chive/smoked provolone corn timbales

Chocolate cream pie
Pumpkin pie
Ambrosia salad

Martinelli's sparkling apple cider
Eggnog with Jack Daniels

Oh yeah. This is gonna be good.

Not to mention that I already made ginger cookies, linzer cookies, coconut macaroons, and mini pumpkin pies for the guys in my lab. The reason for the season is eassin'. I mean, eating. Damnable rhymes.

I never have coffee. Really, I don't. I drink a small mug of cuban coffee every couple weeks maybe, but other than that, not a drop. So I don't know what possessed me to get a venti frappuccino with coffee base instead of creme like usual, but I did. And then this happened:

me: HIHIHIHIHI
Jaime: hi
oh man I'm like falling asleep here
me: I'M ALMOST DOEN WITH MY COFFEE
  EHEHEHEHE
Jaime: haha
me: WE CAN LEAVE AT LIKE 4
CUZ I GOT HERE AT 7.5
Jaime: OK
me: okay, i dstop dat thatnow
  oh wow
  my fingers
  holy crap
Jaime: dstop

I might be stupid today. That's what very little sleep and a giant coffee gets you with me. ANYWAY. Meme time!

100 truths )

There's sharpie all over my hand from my frappuccino sweating off the order markings. Angryface.

Jaime and I attempted to find a flea market yesterday and instead got mildly lost. I think we were abducted at some point in there. Lost time, my friends. Lost time. It actually turned out okay, though, as we consoled ourselves with a trip to Super Walmart instead and while there I spotted Chrono Trigger in the DS case. It had the first run sticker on it, too. My jaw dropped. So, of course, I mumbled my way into getting it, and when the cashier rang it up, the price (which should have been $40) popped up as $15. That's right - first run Chrono Trigger DS with included poster for $15.

The universe's love for me did not end there. We then ate at a fantastic Jamaican restaurant and split an amazing smoothie. Coconut mango. Divine. And we hit the mall. I considered going into Bath and Body Works, as my tiny bottle of Japanese Cherry Blossom hand sanitizer is running out, and lo and behold, when we walked by, an employee was handing out free tiny bottles of hand sanitizer. In Japanese Cherry Blossom. I almost typed Cheery Blossom, there. Appropriate!

So despite my multitude of panic attacks today (all of which I've worked myself out of in under half an hour, though), I've decided that the world doesn't actually hate me. I got cheap Chrono Trigger, free sanitizer, awesome food, and a nice day out with the Jaime yesterday. Hard to argue with that. Oh, and I got to marvel at Tokidoki sets in Sephora. Bastardino, yay!

As a final note on this post, I've discovered that all male engineering grad students have the same uniform:

Glasses
Stubble
Khaki shorts and a polo shirt (or) khaki pants and a plaid button-up shirt
New Balance tennis shoes

It's uncanny.

A: I've never seen fog like this before.
J: It's crazy.
A: Look, you can't even see the road down there!
J: Maybe it's gone.
A: Maybe it hasn't rendered yet.
J: This is either due to the inherent evilness of Gainesville or there's a giant eyeball hiding out there somewhere.

Bonus: I sent a contact form to Publix a few days back asking if there was any possibility they could stock Iberico cheese, which is the best cheese in the world, I swear, and only seems to exist in Trader Joe's stores. I didn't expect much to come of it. About thirty seconds ago, a guy from the Publix we go to called and said they're talking to their cheese vendors and trying to find a way to get it. Holy moly. I guess it really doesn't hurt to ask. Best store ever.
