Hopefully, your holiday's been better.
I can't believe I'm writing a post like this again. Earlier today, I heard the rustling of a paper bag in the ferret room. Grinning, I hurried over to see who was playing. What met my eyes was Odie with his mouth hanging open, convulsing and gasping for breath. I pretty much screamed for mom and climbed in, at which point he ran into the bag to hide, but I could still hear his weird breathing. He started puking, and mom came in to take over for me - I hid upstairs, shaking and frantic. Mom found more puke in their cage, and so we hurried him off to the animal hospital.
He's still there right now - the primary exam showed nothing abnormal, and he didn't exhibit any signs of pain when they took him back and did a more thorough check with abdominal palpations. The blood tests came back normal except for dehydration, but the x-rays were inconclusive. They took more x-rays to check on his spleen, why I don't know, but we haven't heard anything more about that yet. He's on IV fluids to take care of the dehydration from vomiting, and they're gonna keep him overnight to observe him and keep giving him fluids. There's no good solution to this - if there's nothing wrong with him, it means he was choking, and I don't know how to prevent that. I mean, he has to have food. What can I do to make it easier on him? Other possibilites are a blockage or stones in the urinary tract, neither of which are pleasant thoughts, but both of which are treatable.
I really don't know what to hope for. Surgery is scary, but so is the thought of having no real solution. For now, I just want the spleen stuff to come back normal. Please keep my Odie in your thoughts, just like with Stitch last year. They're only four years old - they need a longer life than this. Please be okay, Odes-Bodes baby. Please.
