english hijinkiness!

the assignment: write an enticement poem, then give it to your partner, who must write a poem in response. the poem must be in iambic tetrameter, have an a, a, b, b, c, c, etc. rhyming scheme, and be creative - no copies of last year's!

the example: the passionate shepard to his love, then the shepardess' response

the partner: brian, the movie fanatic

the take: santa claus and his elvin worker

The Jolly Man’s Crush
By Brian

The time I hired you last year,
I didn’t know I’d love you dear.
I have a cheerful wife, you know,
Who keeps me warm in all this snow.

But how do I deny this fact:
I just want you to love me back.
I know that you are just an elf
And I should really stop myself.

You have a lot of work to do
Like making presents look like new.
But stop right now. I need to think.
My dear, you look so good in pink.

Please stop this Christmas working now.
I’ve made a choice. We’ll leave, but how?
It will be known if I am gone.
The elf and me—it seems so wrong.

I know I’m contradictory.
You’re surely getting sick of me.
I know I’m loud, obese, and dumb.
But listen, dear, I’m not a bum.

I love your little pointy ears;
Just come with me away from here.
I’ll ask you once, my pretty dove,
Is Santa Claus your one true love?

The Elf’s Response
By ... me

You really took me by surprise
In asking where my favor lies.
I must admit, you are quite cute
In fur-lined red velvet and soot.

But think about your current life—
I could not help you hurt your wife,
And also my heart holds too dear
Another elf who does work here.

His pointy ears are finer made
Than those of humans, round and staid,
And though you may be known for laughs,
Your somber side shows through at last.

I cannot love a human sir
Who is not always wittier
Than comics on the modern stage.
Your love would trap me like a cage,

Bind me always to build such toys,
I don’t think I could take the noise
Of trains and crying dolls. My ears
Won’t stand this for years upon years.

Besides, think of the girls and boys
Who are expecting Christmas toys.
You’d give nothing, grant not a wish.
I think you’re being quite selfish.

In short, my eyes can only see
The troubles bound for you and me.
If such a path we were to take,
Only disaster would it make.

i think it actually turned out alright. plus, it's not due until thursday! i got an assignment done early! w00t!

Is that... SANTA!?

Great poem, funny and festive, although the thought of Santa getting freaky with a knee high elf sort of squicks me.

I love your icon, by the way! However, it goes so fast I can barely tell who they all are. I got Heero/Duo, Aeris/Cloud, Rinoa/Squall, Collin/Fox, Skids/Cyanide, and... Tai/Harmonica Boy? The rest I couldn't tell. Is that Wakka snuggling somebody?

the santa stuff was brian's idea. i just submit to his madness sometimes; after all, he's the aspiring film maker, he needs to work on his plots more than me. *shrugs* he's cwazy.

oh, and the icon is:
-heero & duo (gundam wing)
-cloud & aeris (final fantasy vii)
-tasuki & nuriko (fushigi yuugi)
-squall & rinoa (final fantasy viii)
-collin & l'hssein (utopia)
-wakka & lulu (final fantasy x)
-cyanide & skids (boy meets boy)
-taichi & yamato (digimon)
-ken & suoh (your wings are mine)

so yeah, you had most of them down, and that was indeed wakka. *grins* good job! *corny thumbs up*
