It happened at Target.

I'd been sitting playing Persona 3 (By the way, Kyria, that battle was freakishly easy. I actually felt sad for them too, for a bit, but then it got so over the top that I laughed. Does this make me a bad person?) when Jaime suggested we go. It's something we do a lot when we're bored, and I jumped at the opportunity. Both of us have had a cloud of malaise hanging overhead lately. Our spirits are still recovering for the crushing pain of Caltech, and unsuccessful job hunting hasn't helped. Sometimes, walking around in Target, inspecting penguin mugs and graphing calculators, can be the brightest part of the day. We had twenty minutes to kill before my prescription would be filled, so we set to wandering like always.

I'm not sure how it was brought up, but at some point, Jaime mentioned going back to school. Amazingly enough, the idea didn't repulse me immediately. I told him about how I wished I had a portfolio so I could get into the school of graphic design at UCF, and Jaime said he'd considered going there and pursuing his doctorate. We hashed out the details - I'm more of a CS fan than I ever thought I'd be, while Jaime's still in love with EE. With every point, the plan sounded better and better. So now, we've discussed it with our parents, and we're decided.

We're going back to school.

Jaime's applying for the Ph.D program in EE, while I'm starting over as an undergrad with CS, though I can skip core thanks to my B.S. from Caltech. I'm intending on fighting all the way through to Ph.D. The plot breaks down like this: we both apply to start no later than the fall (Jaime's thinking of starting earlier if he can). Once we're set up, we'll get parttime jobs here to make some extra cash. When schooltime rolls around, we'll move to an apartment in Orlando, then take a vacation to drive to Reno and retrieve my ferrets. We return et voila! Something to do, a source of income (assuming Jaime gets a fellowship), and I have my freetlings with me. I haven't felt so secure in quite a while. It's nice. Now, I can play P3 and work on TFL Secret Santa gifts without feeling like a total bum. Away I go!
