My beloved cuddlebug Odie, 11/18/2002 - 07/21/2008

I found out about an hour ago that my Odie passed away this morning. He and Stitch were snuggled up, sleeping like always, but when Mom went to wake them, Odie didn't get up. She said he looked very peaceful, like he'd gone to sleep and simply not woken up. From what the vets have found so far, it looks like his heart just stopped, not for any specific reason, but as if he'd just gotten old. I had always kind of hoped he and Stitch would live to be twelve and pass in their sleep on the same night. It may not have all come true, but at least part of it did. By all accounts, he was a very happy boy, and really, that makes everything much easier.

I was going to write a description of everything he was: a sweetheart; a foodie; my intuitive, rough-and-tumble, snuggly wrestling buddy. But... honestly, I'm holding up okay, but if I think about it too much, I'm not sure how I'll react. I think I'm going to break this entry off right here. Jaime's been really good about keeping me moving and not fixating on it, and I don't want to undo all that by dwelling too long here. For now, I have a Jaime whose arms aren't sore anymore, so he's good for cuddling, a Chai tea frappe, and my TV tuned to QVC in anticipation of Jay's appearance. I consider myself rather lucky.

He had the best gramma in the world too. And yes, we really are better for having had him. A lot better. I'm sure Stitch would agree. He was truly special.

Love you too.
