This is crazy.

I heard an amaaaaazing cover of that horribly earwormy "Call Me Maybe" song earlier, and it got me thinking about covers that change the genre of the song entirely. Off the top of my head, I'd recommend Call Me Maybe covered by Ben Howard (this is the one I heard today that blew my mind), Whatever You Like covered by Anya Marina, Umbrella covered by Vanilla Sky, and my personal favorite, Firestarter covered by Jimmy Eat World.

How about you guys? What are your favorite musical reinterpretations?

Track and Field's version of Running Up That Hill -- it's transposed slightly and changes the overall mood completely, IMO.

I also have to admit I love fun.'s cover of Call Me Maybe.

Ohhh, and Bell X1's Boys of Summer

All of those are pretty great. I love Running Up That Hill - I'd heard the Placebo cover before, but never this version. Very melancholy and just lovely.

Several good genre-bending covers have come out of the Live Lounge. That's one of the best things about it.
