eff cubed
i took this quiz:

Which Final Fantasy villain are you?
so, that made me think about what my favorite final fantasy aspects are. like, favorite characters, sidequests, etc. here goes:
male: squall and vivi. i love squall for who he is deep down and what he becomes over the course of the game. vivi, on the other hand, is both utterly cute and in need of a hug. he had me "aw"ing through the whole game.
female: rinoa. easy. she's the one i took my name from. despite what everyone seems to think of her, she is a strong individual who makes no excuses for who she is and speaks her mind regardless of the costs. it's not her fault she fell into some bad circumstances, but the fact that she chose to do what she did after the ragnarok scene speaks volumes. i respect her, and resemble her in many personality quirks and traits, thus she's my personal favorite. second would have to be terra, as she is much the same. strong, but beseiged with problems, and works hard to protect the innocent and at the same time discover who she is and what love is. interesting and endearing.
villain: kuja. he oozes style and madness as he plots genius deceptions and schemes. though internally consumed with jealousy and rage, he remains poised as he eases forward his plans with smooth, nearly unnoticable baby steps. plus, the fluidity of his speech reveals something of a poetic outlook on life, no matter how inwardly bleak. keep in mind, however, that this is a favorites list. the *worst* ff villain would have to be kefka. everything he does reeks of betrayal and narcissism, and by the end of the game, the urge to kill him was so strong it had me tapping impatiently through dialogue just to get a chance to take a swing.
summon: shiva, especially the ffx version. the ice and snow always make for neat effects, and her blue shading is always beautiful. plus, she can deal damage right up there with the dragons, beasts, and wizards. her appearance is very versatile (look at the difference just between ix and x), but she is always a staple of ff summoning and can be counted on to put up a serious fight.
minigame: chocobo breeding in ff7. not many things about 7 stood out for me as "the best" in the series, but the chocobo sidequests were an exception. time-consuming but not monotonous, breeding combined the best of racing, treasure hunting, and just plain chocobo cuteness into one ultimately pleasing package. it's almost enough to make me want to play the entire game again, just so i can raise, name, and race more adorable little birdies.
use of moogles: the beginning of ff6. in the caves with locke near the very beginning, you get to command a near army of moogles in strategic battles. from the creativity displayed in every name to the slight nuances in each one's abilities, it was a deep and fun peek into the world of the moogles. of course, mog is easily the most memorable, but you'll find yourself developing favorites among the throngs of purple wings and bobbing pom-pom-thingies.
card game: granted this is a small category but it gives me a chance to vocalize what many may be thinking: why bring back tetra master for ffxi? triple triad kicked the hell out of it's overly-complex-in-appearance-yet-amazingly-simple-to-master ass.
bizarre playable character: gogo. you find him in the belly of a zone eater. i mean, that just exudes weird vibes. and though he comes in near the very end of the game, he is useful enough to worm his way into your core party. plus, the whole mimic scene with him in the ending is hilarious. quina is a close second, due to his/her amusing obsession with food and adorable way of bouncing when you select an action to perform.
beast character: if this were all rpgs, i'd easily say jessica from lunar. however, seeing as it's not... i have to go with umaro. no, he doesn't ever say anything, and you can't control him. *but* the relationship between him and mog is priceless. he's endearing in his own sort of way, and his fondness for bone carvings is both laughable and sweet, displaying a sensitive core. he's also useful against enemies with high magic defense, as his physical attacks are among the strongest in the game.
summoner: discounting the ones where anyone can summon, i'd have to say rydia. all the cuteness, attitude, and destructive power of eiko without the crazy fangirly infatuation. despite her age, rydia is immensely powerful, can use essential magic, and is an overall strong character. plus, green hair's just cool.
creature that unwittingly reveals a huge plotpoint that no one seems to catch, leading to a mass underappreciation of the game: okay, so that one's not really a valid category. still, i needed a quirky one to end with, and i had to get that idea out there somehow. the answer is moomba, by the way.
