It was quite the remarkable day.

My Saturday was certainly one of the best days of my life, though the next day started with a scare:

Saturday:

10am: Jaime and I got up, showered, and dressed nicely. We then walked to the Huntington, to have lunch in celebration of my 21st birthday, which was on Tuesday. We looked at the Japanese garden a bit, then went for our reservation.

Noon: We arrived for our lunch at the Tea Room, then proceeded to drink a lot of very good black tea and munch on little sandwiches and fruit. It was beautiful - the food was great, the tea was excellent, and the company was divine. After our lunch, we walked around all the gardens, and looked at the galleries, including an exhibit called "The Newtonian Moment". It was all so amazing, and I couldn't believe I hadn't gone sooner.

4pm: We walked back to Tech to see what everyone else was up to, and figure out what to do for dinner. I talked to mom on the phone, and she said that the family had gone to see Corpse Bride that morning. Suddenly, I was desperate to go see the movie, and Jaime and I picked out a 9:20 showing at Paseo Colorado. I also found that I'd been approved for the Castlevania: Symphony of the Night fanlisting, and did a celebration dance.

7pm: We set out in more comfortable clothes for Hana Grill. While dining on our teppenyaki, miso soup, and fried gyoza, Jon and Cathy walked in. They sat down with us and we all ate and chatted together. After dinner, Jaime and I walked down to Paseo Colorado to buy movie tickets and look around a bit. He spotted Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow in Sam Goody, and bought it for me as a birthday present. We also goofed around in Bath and Body Works before heading up for the movie.

9pm: The previews were unremarkable, but short, and the movie started right on time. I found myself captivated, though not as hopelessly lost in it as I was in Nightmare Before Christmas. It was a beautiful movie, though, and I loved every moment of it. Jaime and I stopped in a Starbucks for some Pumpkin Spice coffee, and walked back to Tech. We put on some Muppet Show DVDs, and started settling down in bed.

Sunday:

3am: I heard a ringing in my ears. It was louder and lower than what I get when my ear's acting up, and it was in the right instead of the left, but I tried my best to ignore it anyway. As the sound faded, my scalp started feeling cold, and the back of my head began tingling. I got very worried at this point, and everything seemed very far away. Jaime called security, and while he was on the phone, I felt my heart start pounding. By the time security got there, I was shivering uncontrollably, and they in turn called the paramedics. When they arrived, they asked me a million questions, and found that my heart rate was around 120. Unable to explain why this was happening, they strapped me to a gurney, and put me in an ambulance. Jaime climbed in the passenger seat in the front, and we went to the hospital.

I'm not sure of the times of everything else, as it all seems like a blur. I do remember Jaime commenting that I wasn't going to remember any of it, but that he would. They gave me a saline IV in the ambulance, and at the hospital, they drew blood from the same needle. I was covered in 4 warm blankets, and had at least a dozen sensors stuck to various parts of my body, mostly my chest and ankles. At one point, I kept looking at the heart rate monitor and getting worried, which only caused my pulse to jump higher, so they gave me 1mg of Atavan. My blood tests showed that I was low on Potassium, but that everything else was normal, and the doctor diagnosed me as having had an acute anxiety attack. They gave me a few tips on what to do if it should happen again, and told me to go to the Caltech Health Center for a follow-up during the next week. A Tech security guy came and picked Jaime and I up, and at 6:30am, I pulled off the tape and monitors still stuck to me and climbed back into bed.

I feel fine now, which is good, I suppose, but it still freaks me out that there's no real reason for what happened. I can only hope it won't happen again, I guess. And Saturday was so lovely, too!
