on why i can cry in the midst of happiness

i have this little dragon figurine that my grandmother gave to my mom when i was very little. he's a sleepy baby dragon hugging a teddy bear in one arm and holding a crystal ball in his other hand. i love him like no other object in this world; he has always been my little guardian.

today, he broke.

my books decided that gravity was much more fun to work with than the bottle bookend that has worked since i moved in here, and not only did they clatter to the ground, they also hit my dragon at such an angle to fling him into the heater. i saw the wing crack off and fly in the opposite direction as it happened. and yes, i broke down and cried.

thankfully, i still had some good cyanoacrylate bond left from when i bought the cable and anchor for my laptop, and so i used it to seal his wing back on. the seam is blatantly obvious, but at least he is whole again. i feel like part of me is broken, and i wish desperately that i hadn't thought he would look good up on the shelf earlier. so many what ifs...

i know it's just a figurine. this doesn't change what it means to me though, especially now that grandma's gone...

shit. i'm gonna cry again. let's move on to the happiness that surrounds everything else, shall we?

with that explained and out of the way, it's time for all the good stuffins.

#1 - my love rocks like no other. he knows my musical tastes, helps me with auctions i dearly crave, supplies me with more gaming nerdiness, and gives me that which i was just thinking i missed from home. this webcam shall get good use once i have my permanent room. yus.

#2 - i get my printer/scanner/copier on thursday, and since i bought it through caltech, it's $50 cheaper than online, plus there's no shipping. yes, i do love college sometimes.

#3 - must find buford frink. any information would be rewarded with brownies, rice krispy treats, and/or cookies. ya hear that, rudd seniors?

#4 - this tribute to quailman is cute, though it irks me that i must wear his uniform for hassle week. i did, however, find a loophole regarding the underwear. heh. next year, i'll make sure the incoming frosh have no chance of saving themselves from humiliation.

#5 - my first ever grade in college: 100%. it was on a japanese test, but nonetheless, still a good omen. oh yeah.

so... the dragon lives. and many other things are good. i think i'm alright, mom. i can do this.
