Controversial? Essential, I'd say.
A few different people on my friends list have filled this survey out, and so now, I think it's my turn.
[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
Yes. This takes guts? It'd be bother me more to keep my mouth shut. Err, fingers still. Whatever.
[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?
No. I'm not interested in drugs. I know there's a common argument that the law is what's keeping people from indulging to excess, but I think that's disgustingly flawed. My own sense of morality dictates my actions, and I value my brain too much to risk harming it.
[03] Abortion: for or against it?
Haha, you make it sound like I'm for aborting all the fetuses. It's less that and more "for the right to choose what a woman does to her own body." And it is her body. I think up to the point where the fetus would be able to live if removed from her womb, at which point it probably should just go through premature birth and be adopted (unless, of course, it would harm the mother's life. Then, abortion should be an option no matter what), there should be no issues with a woman choosing to get an abortion. And hey! Stem cells! Research ahoy!
[04] Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
First off, the U.S. is not the world. Kay? Second, there's no reason it would. Gender doesn't determine personality or the ability to be a good leader. I don't think it would change anything, except there would be more close-minded fools upset about the situation.
[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
No. It's impossible to draw a line as to which cases are 100% definitely solved and which ones are 99% there, but there's still a hair-slim chance you might have the wrong guy. So long as there's the possibility of taking away an innocent man's life, I can't condone killing. No, actually, you know what? Even if you know the guy is guilty, I can't support killing him. Then we become no better than murderers who strike out due to slights. Life in prison should be more punishment than letting them rest, and if no one on the outside ever seems them again, then what's the difference?
[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
YES. In a free country, people should be able to put whatever they want into their own bodies. That's my basic belief. So long as you're not putting anyone else in harm's way without their consent, you should be able to do whatever you want to yourself. If we want to get into specifics about this particular example, marijuana is safer than both cigarettes and alcohol. Plus, it has proven medical benefits. If we can smoke a pack of Camels or drink ourselves into a stupor, we should be able to toke up. Personally, I wouldn't (see my answer about meth), but if I wanted to, I should be able to.
[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
For. For for for. You should be sure you're compatible in all aspects of romantic life before taking a big step like that.
[08] Do you believe in God?
No. This is not to say I'm not spiritual. I am. I have my own beliefs. They just don't include any gods.
[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Yep! Serious answer: I fail to see how committed people getting married harms the sanctity of the institution any more than drunken Vegas ceremonies that get annulled 24 hours later. In fact, I fail to see how any adults that love each other and would like to make a lifetime commitment and be legally bound getting married harms anyone or anything. Flippant answer: If you're for gay rights, view it as equality for everyone. If you're against them, view it as gay people being susceptible to the same divorce hassles and nagging spouses as everyone else. Plus, weddings generate revenue. Hello, money!
[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
Illegally? Yeah. I think it should be easier for them to come here legally, so that those who want to can without breaking any laws. I don't think it'd lead to overcrowding any more than the current situation does. I should note that this isn't a button issue for me, so I'm not as well-informed about it as I am about the others. With research, my opinion is liable to change or at least become refined.
[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
If the baby is healthy and happy, the government has no place to intervene. What she does is up to her and her parents, discussed in the privacy of their home. Of course, if the baby's being neglected or is otherwise in danger, as with parents of any age, the child should be taken away.
[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
If eighteen is the age we've decided equals adulthood, then yes, it should. You can vote then, you can enlist then, you're viewed as not a child anymore, and so you should be able to decide what you do to your body. Of course, I also think that the driving age should be bumped UP to eighteen for the same reasons. And there should be much stronger penalties for driving under the influence. In fact, driving all around should be treated much more seriously, I mean, look at all the deaths due to car accidents every year. Those things are dangerous, and people are willing to gab on cell phones, be distracted, and risk killing themselves and others. It's insanity...
[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
Mmm, I tend to be pretty anti-war unless the situation absolutely cannot be resolved without it. There shouldn't have been a war in Iraq to begin with. But there is, and now we need to end it and stop the needless death.
[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
No. See my answers about drugs for the general idea. If someone wants to leave this world, he should be able to. So long as there's secure verification that the person did in fact want to commit assisted suicide, to prevent it being used it as an excuse for murder, it should be legal.
[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
Nope. There are much better ways to discipline children than with physical violence.
[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
Isn't that illegal? Um, well, if I knew for sure I would face no legal repercussions, yes, I would. My patriotismlet me show it to you isn't dependent on a piece of cloth.
[17] Who do you think would make a better president? McCain or Obama?
THIS SHOULD NOT BE A QUESTION. Obama, Obama, Obama. McCain's a joke, and Palin's even worse. I sincerely hope that all of the Clinton supporters do the right thing to respect Hilary's opinion and vote for Obama. We need every vote we can get to make sure our country doesn't degenerate further.
[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
Afraid? No! Nervous? Maybe a little. But I like people to know who I am, what I think about things. I'd be sad if I lost friends from this, but that's a risk I'm willing to take. I'd rather be heard and hated than silent.
Phew, that was fun! No questions about stem cells, though. Or the green movement. That's a real shame.
