Fandom answers.

You know, I had this whole very thoughtful but depressing post I was going to write last night, then I worked out, and it changed into a very positive post. Then I came back, and it got depressing again, so instead of posting, I ate cactus. Yumness. I would've written the thoughtful one again this morning, but I have flea market beanie babies now, so I'm not feeling especially deep. More just yay. It's kind of nice.

Anyway, I just realized that I never posted the answers to this thing, and so here they are:

01) Final Fantasy VIII :: Rinoa Heartilly I'd say it's a very close call between her and Squall, which it is really, but there is certainly a clear winner. She's upbeat and energizing without being dumb, and yet she has a very insecure and panicked side to her that not many people see. I've always felt a connection to her character, and understood instinctively why she feels the way she does. Yet despite everything she goes through, the multitude of times she's plunged into the role of a victim, she still finds a way to be supportive of everyone and search for the best in things. Easily one of the most underrated characters ever, and deserving of so much more love than she gets.

02) Fullmetal Alchemist :: Alphonse Elric Al is the reason I started watching the series, and throughout it all, he stayed my favorite, even though Ed is far more of a match to me personality-wise. He's the epitome of the gentle giant - huge and imposing physically, but gentle and very self-sacrificing underneath that. He may not be the wonderchild, but he's still brilliant, and even as people break and hurt all around him, he stays true to their goals and cares very deeply for his brother's safety. Too sweet to not adore.

03) Gundam Wing :: Duo Maxwell There is a reason why my screen name used to be "Shinigami Rinoa". Tragic past, crazily cheerful demeanor, fights for a purpose... Just the sort of character I love. Plus, that hair! So cute!

04) Buffy the Vampire Slayer :: Willow Rosenberg She's a geek! No, wait, she's a witch! And a lesbian! Now, a villain! And then... a goddess?! Underneath that, though, she's still a geek. She's a very real character, flawed in many ways, but that's part of what makes her endearing. She's never the most popular, or the strongest fighter (physically, at least), but she's invaluable.

05) Final Fantasy VI :: Terra Branford It's a really really tough choice between her and Locke, but in the end, I go with Terra because... hell, I'm not even sure why. She's very Rinoa-ish in some ways, with her desire to just love and live, appreciating the time we have, and her having been feared due to powers she didn't ask for. She starts out with so little, but manages to not lose hope and keep fighting for what she believes in, even against incredible odds. A very remarkable character.

06) Silent Hill (series):: Lisa Garland Though James Sunderland from 2 is a super close second, both of them for reasons I can't explain fully without spoiling. Both have very tragic backstories, and come to grips with them over the course of the game. Seriously, just play the games. You'll understand.

07) Kingdom Hearts :: Riku Only if you discount the Final Fantasy characters; otherwise, Squall, of course! I had a tough time picking between Riku and Sora, as I love them both, but in the end, the mystery surrounding Riku drew me in. Sora's cheerful and clearly a good guy, whereas Riku is neither that, nor a clear cut bad guy. He kinda reminds me of Cal from East of Eden, who I also adore. He knows there is darkness within him, but he doesn't want to be evil. There's tension within him due to this, and I'm very curious as to how it all will end.

08) The X-Files :: Fox Mulder Awww, Fox. Such a believer, to a fault. I like his quick wit and strange sense of humor. He made me want to believe.

09) Final Fantasy IX :: Vivi Ornitier You play through IX, watch the whole ending, and try not to cry. If you can do it, you're far stronger than me. Vivi's such a kind soul and a fighter for what is right, even when faced with indisputable knowledge of what his future will be. Incredibly powerful story.

10) Cowboy Bebop :: Ein I dunno, he's just hilarious, with his intellect, yet cute doggy mannerisms. If I can't pick him, then Ed, as I love her spirit.

11) The Nightmare Before Christmas :: Lock, Shock, and Barrel They're not evil - just mischievous. Hee. Oh, and if they don't count as one character, then I pick... man, what a choice... Sally. Sure. I do love her, though I also love Jack and Zero. Such a good movie.

12) Inuyasha :: Inuyasha Haha, the childish attitude paired with such power. And that hair! He does have a serious side, though, even if he's too hung up on Kikyou. I dunno, he's just very appealing, in a warm and fuzzy sort of way - kinda like an indian burn.

13) Bleach :: Inoue Orihime She's just so funny! I was very prepared to hate her, about as prepared as I was to like Winry in FMA, and this one had the same outcome - the exact opposite of what was expected happened. She's ditzy, but smart. Sexy, but innocent. Giggly, but focused. That first assignment - the one with the future self - sold me on her, and I've just grown to like her more and more ever since.

14) Mario games :: Princess Peach Or Toadette or Toad, as they were my imaginary friends when I was little. Toadette didn't exist then, I know - I made her up. Seriously. Kinda cool. Anyway, Peach is adorable and spritely, and though she manages to get captured quite a bit, she stays in good spirits, and can even kick ass when necessary. Part of female empowerment is freedom - the ability to be who we want to be. Peach wants to be girly. I like that.

15) Sonic the Hedgehog games :: Knuckles Is he good? Not really. But is he bad? Definitely not. So what, then, is Knuckles? A badass Echidna with a very important job entrusted to him, and a snarky wit to boot. Very cool. Though I'm also particularly enamored with Chaos...

16) Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete :: Jessica Gah, beast girl! Sharp fangs, sharper tongue, and lots of cool magical abilities. Plus, she's not afraid to put idiots and assholes in their place. <3

17) Castlevania games :: Alucard Man, and we thought emo was a recent trend - Alucard's been doing it for hundreds of years! Seriously, though, he has quite the unique situation to deal with, and he manages to make the right choices an astoundingly high percentage of the time. Plus, nice character design, with the cape and the hair all wooshy. Very nice.

18) Firefly :: Hoban "Wash" Washburne Gotta love that Joss snark. Wash is particularly likable, in that he's just a bit of a doofus, and is balanced by his lovely and mostly serious wife Zoe. He can pilot like none other (in a good way), yet still enjoys playing with dinosaurs on the dashboard. A man after my own heart.

19) South Park :: Kyle Broflofski Or maybe Butters. Or Tweak. I'll stick with Kyle, though, since he's such a main character. For the most part, he's the smart one in the group, and he certainly has the best hair. Just a funny kid.

20) Futurama :: Phillip J. Fry Such an idiot, yet such a nice guy. He's just dumb enough to make for great comedy, but not too dumb to love. Yay for Fry!

Wow. As far as the fandom answers go, I got a surprising number right. And even more kinda right. Especially good for reasonable guesses.

I should've just said Jessica, though. Aww. She kicks ass. I'm gonna go play Lunar, now. As soon as I'm done with La Pucelle, though. I will finish that game, eventually.

And yes, yay for Fry. Yay for an absence of the delta brainwave.

I don't think FFIX gets the recognition it should. A shame, really.
