Oh, the inconsistencies!
So. I'm on September 10 (Jaime's birthday :D) in Persona 3. I have thoughts. Mostly about a canon(?) ship, namely Junpei/Chidori. The question mark is due to my view of them as not a romantic couple at all. I don't know if there's going to be more development than what I've seen so far, but I have to say, I'm not sold. There was just a fandom secret yesterday about how that pairing makes the OP happy, and it seems like everyone who commented on it agreed, but... I don't see it. I'm pissed at Junpei for letting his loneliness get the best of him, and I'm more than a little freaked out by how messed up Chidori is.
Don't get me wrong, I think both of them are behaving realistically given what we know about them. I just don't think there's any real "love" between them. There hasn't been enough time! They only met four times or so before she threatened to kill him and he subsequently spent every waking moment worrying about her. Okay, so maybe my bias against love-at-first-sight tropes is showing a little, but honestly. Junpei's been very insecure about his role in this whole thing for a while, and this is a chance for him to make a connection that no one else can. In his head, he and Chidori are inextricably linked. To him, she NEEDS him. Reality isn't as romantic.
Another bias of mine is showing in how pissed I'm getting at the fickle nature of fanbrats. Junpei/Chidori is adorable and "works", but Squall/Rinoa is sudden and without basis, even when there're growing feelings between them for over 20 hours in game before Squall finally shows some affection? Bah. Ship what you will, or oppose whatever you happen to dislike, but try to be objective in your justification to others.
Perhaps I'm just grumpy. I have a stress headache like you wouldn't believe, and it's kept me hurting and tingly all day. I need a nap.
