Good thing - I was starting to get cold.

This question was just submitted to the FAQ at my Squall/Rinoa site:

"I don't believe in Squall/Rinoa because I'm not a naive little girl who falls for fairytales and sap. Are -you- ever going to grow out of it, you incredibly pathetic wench?"

Aaaaah. I've arrived. Now, I'm a real webmaster. Thanks, cynical anon.

lawls, anon.

I can't recall, but did I tell you about [livejournal.com profile] heartheartilly?

Ooo, I don't think so. I'm joining it right now.

Love the site.

Thanks! I've neglected it for so long, though - I think that anon might've just given me the kick in the ass I needed to start working on it again.

(Just stumbled across your LJ, please don't mind the unfamiliar face screen name.)

You know, this reminds me of the R = U true believers who say that, (paraphrasing an actual argument I've seen) "You just don't want to believe that Rinoa is Ultimecia because you want to hold on to your happy ending."

What's so bad about a happy ending, I say? What's so bad about a story where courage is rewarded and love does see you through? You know, I could turn that argument around and say, "You just want to hold on to R = U because you can't handle that the people at Squaresoft gave us a happy ending."

Now, which makes you more of an adult? To anonymously call others 'pathetic wenches', or to be someone who knows you don't have to reject all "sap" in order to be mature?

Hey, no worries. Always nice to meet someone new.

Oh, R=U. I did a big ol' writeup of my feelings on that for my site. One of the worst fan theories I've come across, actually. And I agree completely. Not everything ends happily, but not everything ends miserably either. Both are valid endings, and FFVIII just happened to have a happy one. Seriously, the point of the whole game was to learn to enjoy life and embrace love, despite the fact that everything is fleeting. It wouldn't have fit to make the ending about the depressing futility of these things. Talk about your mixed messages!

Way to ignore Rinoa's characterization, too - she's not a bitter person, like Ultimecia must be to do what she does. You're exactly right about the sort of people that can't let go of R=U. Glad to know there're at least a few other logical people that played FFVIII.

I just randomly stumbled upon your LJ too.
People like her just think they're so awesome because they can post anonymously and troll, but eh, they're the only ones that end up looking stupid.
