Sometimes, all the pieces just fit.
A quick note: Jaime's counts came up enough that he was able to get his port put in on Thursday. He's quite pleased with it. They drew his blood earlier today, but it was through his fingertip, so we're still not sure how they access the thing. He starts his next arm of chemo on Wednesday, so I suppose we'll find out then, yeah?
A second quick note: His hair started falling out. We clipped it real short so it wouldn't be as much of a hassle. Now, though, there's little black hairs coating everywhere he's been. Jaime said (and he was right about it) that he could blame the hairs on Zion. Unfortunately, that excuse was invalidated by the fact that he told the idea to both me and Mary. I snapped some pictures of him the other day - his port wound, his new haircut, and just some smiles - that may find their way up here fairly soon.
Now, on to the main entry. I was reading Project Rungay last night and came across an entry about Jay McCarroll. Being that he's my favorite PR designer ever, my attention was immediately captured. Turns out he'll be on QVC tonight (which I will be watching, oh yes, I will. I may not be able to afford anything, but I'll still 'ooo' and 'ahh' over it all.) with some really nifty sounding pieces. I hadn't checked his online store in a while, so I breezed through and was stopped short by this. The cause, even the name, hit me just right. If I had the money to spare, I'd snap one up this instant. Instead, I'd encourage all of you to purchase one. There's a guy's version too, if that's more your speed.
I'm not sure what compelled me to click through to his blog just then, but something did, and I did. The top entry was about Alex's Lemonade Stand. As I read about it, I felt the ache more and more, until I couldn't hold it in. I knew I had to leave a comment, just to thank him for contributing to such a wonderful cause. Jaime's treatment is my world right now, so I couldn't help but mention him, and I think getting that out there just helps emotionally so much. It brings everything to a more personal level, and when you're dealing with something like this, the personal is the most important part. Comments are automatically screened on his blog, so after I hit "Submit", I closed the page and went about the rest of my quiet evening. After we got back from Jaime's blood tests today, I thought I'd check and see if my comment had been approved.
Imagine my surprise when I saw this.
Honestly, I'm stunned, and touched, and just swelled with hope and determination and full-fledged joy. All the good energy that's been sent Jaime's way is... I can't even describe it. I'm in awe. Truly in awe.
To everyone that's ever stopped and offered something - time, money, compassion - to someone who's suffering, thank you. Just... thank you.

I'm always glad to hear about Jaime, even though I don't really know him, because he sounds like such an awesome guy. You guys are really inspiring, I guess is what I'm trying to say, and I admire you for being so...well...genuinely you and fantastic even through this tough time. <3<3<3 love for both of you, as always.

Awww, thank you so much, Sami. Rest assured, I jabber about you to him a fair amount too. He really is an awesome guy - I only wish I could get all my friends in one place for a big old party or something. Maybe someday. Love for you as well!

Thanks for all your compassion. I'm sure the good thoughts will reach him - Jaime says that "Jamie Garcia" is close enough. Pretty much all the nurses he's had have called him Jamie. Heck, one of the nurses at the Cancer Center here in town has started referring to him as James. Slippery slope, yeah? Jaime's amused by the whole thing, really.
Hey - e-mail me and tell me about your recent trip/adventure. I'm curious! :D
