All I want is loving you and music, music, music!
Supposed to be at Moffitt right now, but alas - Jaime's platelets are too low to safely get chemo, so now we're playing the waiting game. On Monday, his blood gets checked again, and we go from there. This does mean that he'll likely be in the hospital on his birthday. This displeases me like you wouldn't believe. For his part, he's pretty unfazed. And asleep. Very asleep, actually. Low red blood cells will do that.
The lump on my brother's back turned out to be calcified muscle surrounded by a big ol' hematoma. The doctor says he must've suffered a pretty severe hit to his back sometime within the last three months to cause it. Being my little brother and thus sometimes stupid beyond all compare, Erik thinks he might've gotten hit with a surfboard while he was with dad. Maybe. He doesn't really remember.
I'm gonna smack the boy in the back of the head until he gets a hematoma there. Maybe he'll remember that.
And now, ganked from
terra, a music meme:
List ten songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your ten songs. Then tag ten other people to see what they’re listening to.
If I was being totally honest, I would say "The Crane Wife" by The Decemberists, as that album is ten songs long and I've been listening to it pretty much on repeat lately. But that's not much fun, so here're ten songs by different artists I'm feeling at the moment:
01. Yankee Bayonet - The Decemberists
This song is all a'chew on my brain. Seriously. I can't get it out. It's a pretty duet with sad lyrics and a gorgeous chorus. Hard not to love that.
02. But It's Better If You Do - Panic! at the Disco
Yes, I listen to Panic! at the Disco. "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" is a well done album, and fuck everyone who hates without listening. My favorite track off of it would have to be this one, the first bit from the second half. It's good for boogieing.
03. A Lack of Color - Death Cab for Cutie
Quintessential Death Cab: lovely and melancholy.
04. Goody, Like Two Shoes - Matchbook Romance
Matchbook Romance is a fairly recent discovery for me (outside of single tracks on Punk-O-Rama compilations), but damn is it good. I'd recommend investing in "Shadows", which is far less punk and more alt rock. I was torn as to whether I should put this track or Monsters. In the end, I opted for the one not on Guitar Hero 3, just to spread something that's been heard a bit less.
05. Hey There Delilah - Plain White T's
I know, I know, everyone and his spaghetti-tank-clad swoony girlfriend knows this one. There's a reason all those people like it, though - it's GOOD.
06. Danger - Etro Anime
Blame it on Digital Devil Saga. I stand by my belief that this is superior to the Japanese intro song. It just sounds... right. I can't quite explain it, but the vibe matches up to the game's for me as if composed just for it. Stands pretty nicely on its own, too.
07. Stab My Back - The All-American Rejects
I started listening to The All-American Rejects thanks to a HORRIBLE fic I stumbled across with chapters named after songs. The "prose" made my retinas scream in terror, but the lyrics stuck with me, and the iTunes samples just encouraged me more. Jaime disapproves - too mainstream for his off-key crooning blood. I just sing louder.
08. Disintegration - Jimmy Eat World
"Stay On My Side Tonight" is one of the best sets of music I've ever heard. It's one of the big reasons I had issues with "Chase This Light"*, actually. Anyway, this is my favorite track off of it. It gives me goosebumps every time. No joke.
09. Someday - Hanaeryca
And THIS one you can blame on The World Ends With You. Which I am still kind of playing. And planning a fansite for. I may be obsessed. Eh heh. Go go game pop!
10. First Day Of My Life - Bright Eyes
Jaime used the title of this song as a username recently. I just... man. Love. I know a lot of people don't like Bright Eyes. Heck, I used to not like it. But now, it just hits me like a gust. It's so REAL. If I could absorb song-writing skills from anyone, it'd be Oberst, no question.
* "Chase This Light" is a fine album. It's just not a GREAT album. I probably wouldn't have been disappointed at all if it a) wasn't from Jimmy Eat World and b) hadn't come out after "Futures", which was amazing, and "Stay On My Side Tonight", which had the double threat of being amazing and NEW. I had an idea of how their sound was evolving, and I liked it. I looked forward to hearing where it would take them. Then "Chase This Light" came out sounding full-force like it'd been recorded at the same time as "Bleed American", and the regression broke my little heart. So. My final verdict on it is that it's good, maybe even great if taken out of context, but personally hit a low note with me... with the exception of Gotta Be Somebody's Blues. Good god, that song is fantastic.
Gift for all of you: the ten songs I selected for the meme. Listen if you'd like, and enjoy.
