The outcome is definitely worth it.

Up at 6, on the road at 7, in Punta Gorda at 7:30 to get Jaime checked in for transfusions. His platelets somehow dropped after the last transfusion, so he got two units this time instead of one, plus his hemoglobin was low - like, really, really low. Like, causing him to get out of breath from just standing up and making his lips pale and his fingers cold. It was freaky - so he got two units of blood as well. AND, since he's still neutropenic, everything had to be irradiated, which meant we had to wait until today even though everything was ordered after his CBC yesterday. The platelets go quick, as fast as his blood will take them, but the blood has to be delivered at a slower pace. It takes about three hours per unit. We literally just walked in the door.

I. Am. Tired.

But do you know how amazing it was to look at him after the first pint of blood and see him smile with flushed lips again? And he seems so much happier. I love it. Bless you, blood donors.

The semi-rush of this morning meant I didn't get a chance to try out the incredibly awesome pigments Sami sent me oh my gosh! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE STUFF! I've never actually had pigments before. I'm so excited to play with them. I didn't get a chance to paint my nails yet either, but I used the lipglass and whoaaaaaaa love it. And the BPAL vials. I dabbed a bit of Hellcat on before dashing out this morning. Looooove.

I started reading The Devil's Cup as well, and noticed something really interesting as soon as I cracked it open. It smells unlike any other book I've ever opened. This is very much a good thing. Somehow, I wasn't expecting that, even though it makes sense - everyone's house smells different, and things carry scents. I have things that smell like many different places I've been, like mom's house in Reno, a couple things that still smell like Alaska, and now there's something else, another unique scent to file away in my head. Nifty.

In case it wasn't clear, I haven't gotten a chance to read my friends page in a little while. I'll catch up later tonight. For now, I need sugar. Hopefully there's some soda in the kitchen. A-ramble!

Book smells are awesome. (We have an ancient book in our house, Antoine and the Cat or something like that, which is so unique I can identify it by smell alone.)

You've just given me the impetus to go and donate blood again. I used to go a few times a year, but I've slacked off lately. But people like Jaime are obviously worth the effort! (squared, to the nth, etc.)

Also: how is the book? Worth checking out and reading?

They are! That's really cool. You realize if I ever manage to visit you, I'm going to be smelling your books, right?

Hooray! I looked it up and discovered that lipitor doesn't affect my ability to donate, so I'm definitely planning on going. I haven't gotten a chance to yet, what with all the craziness and being housebound when Jaime's counts are low, but I most assuredly will. I'm considering becoming a bone marrow donor when this is all said and done too. It's the least I can do, really.

I've just started it, but it's quite good so far. I'd recommend giving it a shot.
