When you're extraordinary, you gotta do extraordinary things.
So. I'm in Reno! Got into town on Friday. It was supposed to be Thursday, but one of my flights ran 45 minutes late and my layover was only 30 minutes, so I got left behind in Phoenix. The airline got me a hotel room at least, which was nice, though I didn't get a dinner voucher. The hotel restaurant didn't have Sam Adams, either. What place doesn't have Sam Adams? Anyway, I ended up arriving at about noon the next day. Mom and I grabbed lunch, shopped, blah blah blah, and then. Then we went to Reno High to surprise my brother.
Y'see, that was the point of this whole trip. The Booth Street Players (RHS's drama club) were putting on Pippin as their spring musical, and Erik was Pippin. I kind of had to see him. Mom and I had the brilliant idea to not tell him about my visit (which would be why I haven't posted about it here before now, just in case). She's not good at keeping secrets - she told him he had a surprise coming, and he thought of me. D'aww. His girlfriend Dannae, who knew was what happening, salvaged it. When he told her he thought I was coming for the play, she just scoffed, "You're way off," and he bought it completely.
Anyway, we went to Reno High to surprise him. Mom made sure he wasn't in the make-up room, then ushered me in and had me sit at one of the tables turned away from the door. Everyone then went about their business completely as usual, and we waited for Erik to walk in and see if he noticed. I didn't get to see his full reaction, since I was turned away, but Mom says he walked in and immediately looked at me, and paused, and looked again, and then he ran over and dropped to his knees, grabbing my shoulders and screaming. It was perfect. After much hugging, I got to meet Dannae (finally), who's incredibly sweet and funny and just a doll. Erik has this thing where, when I date someone, he has to approve of him or I'm not allowed and I've gotta dump him. I calmly informed him the same rules applied to him. Watching him squirm while Dannae and I were chatting was pretty damn funny, I gotta say. I did give him my approval, of course, but what sort of big sis would I be if I didn't make him sweat first?
The show itself was incredible. Absolutely incredible. There's a certain level of quality you expect out of high school productions, and this was far above and beyond that. Once the DVDs are out, I'll either get Erik to upload some clips onto YouTube or I'll do it myself. Dommie was in the play too, and Dannae was one of the lead players (they split the role into three). Plus, my mom made every single costume. I tell you, I was torn between being swelled with pride and completely overwhelmed. It's good either way.
It's also good to see Stitch, though she's so riled up from me playing with her that she's wreaking havoc. She shredded the tape holding a piece of plexiglas over the sliding glass doors so she couldn't munch the curtains and wriggled in there, all squished up between them. And she just won't stay asleep. Every time I walk by, she bolts out of the hammock and starts flailing around. I played with her for an hour straight this morning, so she's actually snoozing at the moment. Everyone else is at school or work. I have the house to myself. It's really weird, being alone after so much time spent sutured onto Jaime's hip. It's not like I don't talk to him all the time, though. Cell phones, IM, video chat. I get my Jaime fix.
Oh, and by the way, he has Wolverine chops now. Really. Go bug Jaime to post a picture.
I think that's a good note to leave this post on.
