happiest place on earth!
I am so very dead tired, so I will make this brief.
I saw Stephen Hawking give a lecture entitled "To Boldly go: My Life in Physics" Friday night, and it was incredible. Granted, Kip Thorne was *really* hard to listen to during introductory stuff, and the going was a bit slow with Hawking's set-up, but it was completely worth it. For one thing, the subject matter was fascinating and spurred a very interesting discussion about the origin of the universe between me and Jaime earlier today. Also, Stephen Hawking is hilarious! His sense of humor is quirky and, quite frankly, amazing. A few choice quotes from "The Hawk":
"Black holes are out of sight."
"Nature abhors a naked singularity."
"I am very proud of having any small contribution, and it feels good. I won't say it's like sex, but it lasts longer."
Apparently, the presentation he gave to us was a modified version of one he prepared for his 60th birthday. Kip said this was the first time it had ever been given on this continent. Again, I'm just in awe. Stunned. All those other short and powerful words. If you ever have the chance, I would highly recommend seeing him live. There's something hauntingly sweet and seeing his strained smile. It warms your heart to know that your laughter brings him joy, and it will give you so much respect for him. Not only is he brilliant, and despite all odds successful, but also just a magnificent human being. Go Hawking.
After that great night, it was hard to get to sleep, and I ended up not getting as much as I should have for today. We set out to Disneyland, and were there from about 9am to midnight. It was good to see Danielle again, and I love it when she's there because it makes Steve so happy. Happy friends make me happy too. We went on pretty much every open ride. (Come back, Haunted Mansion! *sobs*), played a bit of DDR, paid way too much for N'awlens food and pizza, and reaffirmed the fact that "It's a Small World" automatically closes whenever I am near. Yeesh. I must ride it now, just because it has vexed me so. You may have eluded me today, Small World, but there's plenty of time left for me to conquer you! *fist shake*
So now, slightly sunburned and with sore feet and much exhaustion, I shall shuffle off to bed. Perhaps I'll write more on all of this tomorrow, but I doubt it, and I have much work to do. Yikes. Now onward, to peacefulu slumber. May you all have only the sweetest dreams.
