I don’t really know if this applies to CD-RW/ DVD-ROM like it does to CD-ROM drives, but a friend of mine made his CD-ROM drive into a CD-RW drive with software but it wore out with in a couple of months!!!!!! Because it strengthens the laser and/ or spins the disk faster, heavily wearing on the hardware, wearing it out! so ask around first.
