Logicrats ftw!
I'm watching the democratic debates right now, and all I can think is that it's such a shame Kucinich has no chance of winning. He'd really be something.
Actually, that's a lie - I can think of a lot of other things to say. For example, keeping the drinking age at 21 isn't going to stop anyone from drinking, and allowing people to smoke in public places helps no one other than... no, you know what? It helps no one. Letting those people have cigarettes whereever they are sure isn't helping their health, but it is their right to do whatever they want to their own bodies. However, as I've said before, once you step into the realm of putting others at risk without their consent, something must be done. Secondhand smoke shouldn't be tolerated.
I'm registered as a democrat, but I honestly disagree with most of them. I try to think logically and objectively about all issues, rather than letting my emotions get in the way. Adults (out of high school) in the United States of America should be free to do whatever they want whenever and whereever they want, so long as they are not putting others at risk without their consent. Take, for example, a college student who wants to drink a bottle's worth of margaritas. In his house, all by himself, who's to say he shouldn't? If he wants to drive to his buddy's house, however, he's endangering others without their explicit consent to be put at risk, and so the law should step in to stop him and punish him. For that matter, we need to really punish people for driving under the influence. People die from the selfish actions of others all the time, and it needs to stop. Don't jail people for doing drugs, but absolutely, without a doubt, jail them for a loooong time if they drive in an inebriated state.
I'd also like people to learn something about science before attempting to talk about it. Nuclear power is safe, clean, cheap, and effective. Stop treating it like a taboo. There IS a nice solution to the power problem - a combination of nuclear, solar, and wind power. Plus, drilling for oil in our country (that part of ANWR was set aside for resource evaluation, people, and it's not where the endangered animals live!) to use while we gradually lower our dependence on oil would be wise.
Anyone else on the logicrat train with me?
