Odie's allergic to holidays.
Some of you may remember that last year's Christmas was less than ideal for me - I ended up rushing my boy ferret Odie to the vet, who told us he had cancer and would die within weeks. Turned out she was wrong, the second vet he saw was appalled with how much she stressed us for nothing, and Odie was lacking in some hair but otherwise no worse for the wear.
Odie's at the vet right now, awaiting EKG results. He has a tumor in his ear that they don't think is cancerous but will be removed on Wednesday to prevent future problems. However, during his work-up, the vet (a third one, and this one I really like and trust) heard a possible heart murmur, so they had to run fifty million tests on him to make sure he can handle anesthesia. If not, they'll do a local numbing agent. So far, his circulation's been declared healthy, and his bloodwork and chest x-rays are great. Now, we just have to wait for the EKG results so he can come home and relax with Stitch until the surgery.
So once again, please keep your fingers crossed for my little boy. Hope that his heart's okay, and that the tumor really is benign. Thanks.
... I'm gonna go eat something and lay down. I'm beginning to hate winter.
Edit(9:59pm): Everyone do a little dance with me now! Odie's EKG came back totally healthy. Apparently his heart doesn't sound like a normal ferret's, but it's steady and works just fine and has likely been this way his whole life. Also, all the x-rays and scans have shown his little body's pretty damn healthy and the tumor doesn't go deeper than the skin. So. On Wednesday they knock him out and laser off the tumor, then send it off for biopsy and he comes home. No shaving, no IV, no overnight stay. Hopefully, it'll all go just that smoothly. Fingers crossed!
