Time for more Persona 2: Innocent Sin chatter!
Me: Hey, check it out. More cross-dressing.
Jaime: Why are the Persona games so gay?
Me: Dunno, but I approve.
And a little after this, I encountered "Gay Committee Member". Oh, Persona. Never change.
Trapped in a dungeon that a mirror could allow you to escape. None of the girls have a mirror on them, but of course resident beauty Eikichi does. Also of course, it ends up getting broken while he and Lisa tussle. It just couldn't be easy, could it? Stupidity!
So much stupidity that Tatsuya BREAKS THE FOURTH WALL to stare right at you, as if saying, "At least you're not in this game with them." Sorry, man. I feel ya.
Oh, since I didn't mention it before, in my game, Tatsuya = Harry. My naming scheme continues.
P2 protag = Harry Smith
P3 protag = James Smith
P4 protag = Henry Smith
P2:EP will have Heather Smith, and I believe I'm leaning towards Alex Smith for the first Persona, though I may end up going with Travis. Decisions, decisions.
There is so much cuteness going on in this picture that I melted a little. The way Eikichi sleeps, Maya's bunny, blushing Tatsuya... It makes you wanna awwww out loud, doesn't it?
I knew that was a lighter he kept pulling out while idle! What a pyro.
Now we enter into Tatsuya's dream sequence, but before we do, I'd like to insert some speculation.
This is the Joker.
Note the flower he's holding. Going into this game, I knew only a little bit about it. I could identify Tatsuya and Maya; I'd heard you could date Maya, a girl named Lisa, or a guy named Jun; and I'd seen official art of a few other characters. Two of them I know now were Eikichi and Lisa. The other was this guy:
In the art I saw, he was wearing the same flower in his lapel that the Joker is holding in that earlier screencap. Thus, I assumed he'd be connected to the antagonist, if not the major villain himself.
Jump to Tatsuya's dream sequence, where he gets the lighter, his treasure that he still carries with him everywhere, from this boy:
And then it clicked. The guy in the opening, the only one featured that isn't in my party yet, and the boy who gave Tatsuya that lighter. They're the same. That must be Jun.
I went into this game with an open mind. Sure, you can have canon gay, but that doesn't mean you're required to. I figured, if I like Tatsuya with Jun, I'll pair him with Jun; if I like Maya best, I'll go for Maya; and if Lisa steals my heart, well then, it'll be Lisa. I like Lisa, but I don't ship her with Tatsuya. I ADORE Maya (seriously, she's a fantastic character and I'm psyched at the idea of playing as her in Eternal Punishment), but she pings me as much more of a familial presence in Tatsuya's life than a romantic one. So that leaves Jun, who I think is the boy in the flashback. Who gave Tatsuya the lighter he still carries, who got Tatsuya's father's watch as a gift in return, who said it was okay to give the lighter to Tatsuya because they're almost the same person, so it's like he still has it. I just... gah... the love. I haven't even met non-tiny-Jun, but I already ship it. I've just got my fingers crossed now that whatever connection he has to the Joker (and there must be one - they wouldn't have the same flower just coincidentally) isn't going to cause a heartbreak ending for Tatsuya.
Ahem. Moving on.
