I love my livejournal.
Went up to Moffitt this morning for a consultation with the bone marrow transplant people. Sokol didn't think Jaime'd need it, but since Burkitts moves so fast (the doctor we spoke to in the bone marrow clinic said there is no known cancer that grows more quickly than Burkitts Lymphoma. Can we say, "Holy shit"?), he thought it prudent to get to know them just in case and hear their opinion. The basic gist is that there's no clear answer, but they're not recommending BMT right now. It's more likely that he won't relapse than that he will, and though he does have two big risk factors, he's lacking many others. In addition, since Burkitts is really rare, there aren't any studies to support BMT in a patient like Jaime (more on that in a moooooment). According to the doctor we spoke to, the majority of oncologists would say no to BMT in Jaime's case, so that's what we're going with.
Since this is my thousandth livejournal post (and I was really REALLY hoping I'd get to say this for the big 1-0-0-0), let's close things out with a bang, shall we? I mentioned before that there aren't any studies about this stuff in a patient like Jaime. By that, I mean someone who had Burkitts Lymphoma and went into complete remission. That's right.
As of today, 02/25/2009, Jaime is officially in remission!
The smile, it just won't go away! Party, anyone?

I have an evil plan to get you to move to Florida. It consists of me saying, "Hey, you know, if you ever feel like going to grad school, you should come to UF. We should hit up Jon to come too, and then the four of us could get an awesome apartment and be ridiculous together." I will be enacting said plan very soon.
How are things in your half of the country? Enjoying French and Spanish? Hey, you know, if you ever feel like going to grad school, you should come to UF. We should hit up Jon to come too, and then the four of us could get an awesome apartment and be ridiculous together.

French and Spanish are going very well (100% averages in everything so far!). I have been practicing French on the side with library books and such, because I am nerdy like that, and things are progressing nicely. I have given some thought to grad school stuff, so I'll try to put up a post about that soon. ("Soon" being "sometime within the next two or three years" in Cathy speak, lol.)

Hey, nerdy is good! It's gotten you this far, yeah? Glad to hear it's going well. I'm still plugging away at Japanese, though it feels like I've hit a wall at the moment. I can understand bits and pieces of conversation I hear, and getting up from that to full comprehension is going to take a while, I know, so the progress is less encouraging. I'm trying, though! It'll happen!
Looking forward to the post! I look forward to all my friends' posts, really. It's always neat to get a glimpse at what others are thinking.
