Looks like all those appointments paid off.

Ferritin is a protein that holds onto iron. By measuring ferritin levels, you can tell how much iron a person has. From what I've gathered from a modest amount of internet reading, normal levels are 30-300 ng/ml for men and 15-200 for women, and the minimum amount recommended for a healthy individual is about 50.

Apparently, my ferritin is 3.

This explains a lot.

How are you still walking about? I think my levels have been down to about 7-8, and felt totally tired and out of it at that time. (I was a blood donor at the time and was more or less force feed iron at the hospital:) Go get some iron! And broccoli and spinach. And meat.

Honestly, I have no idea. I've been having a bunch of health problems lately, though all relatively minor in and of themselves, and this can explain pretty much all of them. I'm on iron supplements now, and I'm thinking some red meat for dinner tonight sounds pretty good.

As a side note, good on you for donating blood! :)

Hey, what was I supposed to do? I eat a good diet! It's not my fault my body regularly decides to bleed out and apparently doesn't replenish itself like it should. :p

Wow, that's nuts. Iron deficiency in the middle of grad school--talk about a trial, all that work and no energy. On the plus side, if you've kept up with school so far despite that, the rest of the year ought to be clear sailing! (I hope.)

It definitely makes me feel like less of a lazy ass for being as lackluster as I've been. I've managed to mostly keep up just as well as I'd like, so hopefully everything will just get easier from here on out. At least exams are partway over. During my time away from academia, I definitely didn't miss them.

Just so you know, there will be a few items heading your way around Christmas time. They may be a bit late, but that just means your holiday will last longer, right?

I sent your card.... today. So yeah, if you're late, I definitely will be. :)

Dang month went by too fast.

I have yet to draw cards, more or less send them out. D: Eh heh. It's true, December is just flying by. At least that means finals are almost over!
