すばらしい〜!

Yesterday was kind of crummy. I was belly-pained (as I have been for most of this week) and I accidentally took a call from my bio-dad. So, I was kind of shaken up and nervous and expecting the worst of today. However, it took an unexpectedly pleasant turn when this popped up:

Jaime: hm
wanna go to japan in may?
me: haha, YES
  i wish you were serious
Jaime: there is a wireless power conference that [my advisor] is going to and he wants me to go as well
  in kyoto
me: D:
  omg
  are you serious?!
Jaime: yesh
me: are you serious that i could go to japan?!?!
could we come up with the money for me to go too?!
Jaime: potentially
me: OMG
  OMG
  OMG
  OMG
  OMG
i... i need to call my mom
  omg
  this is too big
  we have to
  holy shit
  omg
  omg
  brb
Jaime: I should probably get a passport

I still can't believe this. I might actually get to go to Japan. The conference is in Kyoto, but we figure we'd fly into and out of Tokyo (as it's cheaper and where we'd rather tourist about) and then take the bullet train. Take the freaking bullet train. Oh my god. I can't believe I'm thinking about this seriously. Looks like I may get to cross another item off my bucket list:

- Get a Seawolves game puck
- Get quoted by a celebrity
- High five an Egyptian statue
- Come up with a nickname as good as Ugg from Salute Your Shorts
- Go to Japan
- Walk through the graveyard scene in the Haunted Mansion
- Pet a bat
- Meet my favorite band
- Stomp through a miniature city
- Grow my own tulips
- Whisper "I love you" across the dome at St. Paul's Cathedral
- Play "Bottle Up and Explode" on guitar
- Experience weightlessness

... I should probably brush up on my 日本語.

My unease about Japan* doesn't quite get rid of how FREAKIN JEALOUS I feel.

*I've heard 10 too many Xenophobic Natives stories.

Yeah, I'm thinking my chubby ass and my over six feet tall Mexican boyfriend are going to stick out just a little. Ah well. I don't let staring stop me here; I won't let it stop me there either.

I will surely be looking for mameshiba in your honor.

That is so awesome! *helps you with flailing*

Eee, thank you! I'm pretty sure this calls for more flailing than my arms alone can take! :D

Sounds groovy. There's a lot to see in Kyoto, too!

You are the master at this point. Teach us, sensei! What should we make sure to see? So far, I'm determined to visit at least Shibuya and Akihabara, and I'd like to go to a temple and a museum, I think.

I wish you the best trip yet, I'd never visit this place
I'm afraid of planes and heights, also it costs money

You listen to Rokkurro long before you buy the farm
If not, well at least you've their 1st album out there

I must not so bad at kanji if I'd read your word uses
I'm going to blame anime more than music out them

Yeah, just a few months ago I would've been far too anxious to do this, and we'd never be able to afford it if Jaime's half of the fare weren't covered by his adviser. It's serendipity!

I'll make sure to give 'em a listen. :)

I'm anxious as is to get anywhere outside my home
I need to get over my fears if I plan to visit Sweden

Were you able to find the album? They got two now

If not, you can listen to it here and fall in love again! (http://www.mediafire.com/?2jj3ujkgwnn)

Hey, I know this is a little late, but my brother is currently studying abroad in Japan, so if you have any questions I can forward them to him. I just found out from him today that his winter break is from December 23-Jan 10, so I may just drain all my savings and go visit him. You guys are welcome to come then too if you want, although it sounds like the May visit may be better for your budget!
