Looks like all those appointments paid off.

Ferritin is a protein that holds onto iron. By measuring ferritin levels, you can tell how much iron a person has. From what I've gathered from a modest amount of internet reading, normal levels are 30-300 ng/ml for men and 15-200 for women, and the minimum amount recommended for a healthy individual is about 50.

Apparently, my ferritin is 3.

This explains a lot.
