rinnia: (confusion)

An overabundance of... something.

This makes me want to practice knitting. It's just so adorable! I covet! It seems like it wouldn't be TOO difficult of a project, either. A little cabling, a little shaping, but not too much else that's complicated. It is knitting, though, which turns me off a bit. Once I get some little magnets, I plan on starting an amigurumi project I've been planning for a while. Crocheting sounds pretty good right about now.

As much as I like the free time, I really want to go back to school. There's only so long I can read textbooks on my own before the monotony gets to me. I need classes again, and labwork OOO LABWORK. I wouldn't object to shopwork either. I miss the machine shop. Once I'm back in school, I'm sure I'll be posting here about how I wish I could just ignore my obligations and play video games. Isn't that the way it always works?

I've been trying to write lately (The Anglerfish isn't sure whether it wants to be a standard short story or something more freeform; either way, it craves attention), but I'm just not satisfied with what's coming out. I'm sticking to fanwork at the moment, since that carries with it the motivation of being able to post it online, but the prose... Ugh. Work with me, Yosuke! Work with me!

Anyone have any light-hearted prompts? I'd love to have a go at some fluff tonight.

I'm sure nobody gets the joke in my userpic except me, but I find it funny, so... phbt!

:D I love you, Momie.

I swear, if I ever get published, the first piece in my collection will be the story of the orange. That thing means so much to me. :)

Wasn't there something about an orange rolling (or maybe sitting?) on a hill in one of our freshman english class group writing things? Its mixed up in my head with the Tiffany story. :)

There was! I started that one. :D It's an old joke in my family.

Also - OMG, HOW ARE YOU DOING?! *tacklehug*

Hey hey :) I'm doing okay, trying to get my research started up now. What's this i hear about a harvard app??? Coming up to my area?

[identity profile] rinnia.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Considering it. :) Jaime and I both have apps in at Harvard and UF. It's too early to know anything definite yet, but we're hoping we'll have some good options. So yeah. We may end up heading your way.

And since I'm nosy and in love with learning, what's your research on?

School is great for providing structure and incentive. Heck, I'm taking French and Spanish courses this term because I got sick of studying those on my own too! (Not to mention that French is really hard to learn from scratch if you can't hear it.)

If you still need prompts, I'll toss the following:

Someone goes into their first day of French 101, and finds that they are, surprisingly, able to understand their professor clearly. Then, they find to their horror that they are no longer able to speak English!

(Obviously I have French on the brain.)

French. :/ I hated it so much. Mostly, I think it's because my teacher was an unbridled bitch who thought it was funny to belittle everyone in class (except for me, because I actually did well, but I still didn't enjoy listening to hear mock everyone in a language only I could understand well enough to get it). I wonder if I'd like it more if I tried it again now... Anyway, good luck with your courses, and have fun! College at non-Caltech should mostly be fun, right?

I LOVE THIS PROMPT. *scurries off to write*

Man, that teacher sounds terrible! Mine is young and enthusiastic, but she seems very nice at least, even though she gave a lot of homework. :)

I like my language courses because they are a do-able challenge. The Spanish is at just the right level, where fluency is presumed and the courses focus on refining grammar and augmenting vocabulary. With both of these, if I work hard enough at an assignment, I can always complete it successfully, unlike, say, physics, where I could plunk 20 hours into a problem and never get it done. (*cough*I'm not bitter!*cough*) I like the feeling of making progress; that's what's fun to me! :)

Oh, physics. Such a harsh mistress. Why do I always come back for more punishment?

Good to hear you're enjoying your studies. That's really what school ought to be about, you know? Immersing yourself in fields that make you happy. It's taken me a while to get back to that mindset, but I'm pretty comfy with it again. Making progress in any way is always good. :)
