hypocrisy at its finest
Dec. 14th, 2004 10:48 amWhen people can stand and recommend that killing be followed by killing, all rationality has been forgotten. How vengeful are we, that we play God with other people's lives because they did it to someone else? I don't care if he was guilty - it's a uniform opinion that I follow. We cannot be sure that every convicted criminal is guilty, and if even one innocent man is killed, that's one too many. I don't want to pay more taxes to kill people. Let them rot in jail. At least then, if they're found innocent, they can be released. Behind bars, they don't exist in this world, the same as being dead. Why spend more money to do what they did and are being punished for?
Or maybe we all deserve the punishment. Revenge is not noble, nor is it objective. Government should be both, and is unfortunately neither. We should take the steps towards nobility and equality, and ask, "Who are we to pick who lives and dies?" Punishment by imprisonment, not by human rage.
Thank you.
