Try the oranges - they're real.
Sep. 16th, 2006 09:58 pmYesterday was Mom's birthday, and as part of the celebration, we went to go see The Illusionist. Typically, I abhor period pieces, but this movie was absolutely enchanting, no pun intended. I loved the stylistic choices, and the story was moving with a slap-in-the-face sort of ending. Great stuff.
In the movie, there's a necklace featured which starts as an oblong/rounded rectangle shape and can be twisted into a heart and then opened to reveal a secret compartment. It took me a bit of pondering, but before the end of the movie, I had the schematics bouncing around in my head. I drew up rough sketches today and explained them to my mom, just to make sure there were no snags I hadn't spotted before. Lo and behold, it looks like a solid plan. I don't know how to do woodworking, frankly, but maybe someday I can make a real version of that amazing trinket. Can dream, can't I?
