I can't stop laughing!
Dec. 10th, 2006 08:09 pmSome of you may have heard me bitching about my Ravi class this term, ME65, otherwise known as Ae/AM/CE/ME 102a. The in-class 9-noon final was one of the worst experiences of my entire life, both due to extreme fatigue and excessively difficult exam content. Seriously, finite elements without a computer? WTF?
Anyway, after suffering through the three hours of torment (which immediately followed 21 hours of work on the finite elements project for that course), I was surprisingly unphased by the prospect of failing. Sure, I bombed the final, but I was banking on the fact that no one wants to be the reason you don't graduate, and that I could take MS115b next term as the alternative for graduation requirements instead of using it for grad-level course credit. Many others, who didn't take 115a simultaneously like I alone did, were not as blasé as I. Apparently, many of them contacted the TAs or even Ravi himself, worried about the prospect of not graduating this year due to this class. One day after the final, this e-mail from the course's head TA landed in my inbox:
Hi Everyone,
Many of you have expressed concerns with the final. We realize that it was difficult, and assure you that we graded generously. Additionally, Ravi is a nice guy and is known for being generous with class grades. In other words, you should not worry about failing the class!!!
Your exam (with the class grade listed) should be available sometime on Monday after 12:00 noon if you are still around. You can find them outside of Ravi’s door, along with the graded projects.
On behalf of your Ae102a/ME65 TA’s, I would like to wish you Happy Holidays!
Needless to say, the worry that had started to knot in my stomach, influenced by everyone else's panic, has disappeared. I really don't care what grade I got - so long as it's not an F. Phew.
... And that e-mail just cracks me up. Honestly, what does that say about the course's difficulty? Sheesh.
