My sweet Odie Ahnold...
Dec. 26th, 2006 12:31 amMy little boy ferret has cancer. He didn't display any symptoms until his episode today, and hasn't been in any pain. Unfortunately, the cancer is extremely aggressive, and has already metastasized and spread to his spleen, stomach, and lungs. They don't think he has very much time left. There is nothing we can do. Tomorrow morning, we'll be bringing him home, and letting him stay with Stitch just like normal. I go back to Tech on the 28th, and my departure then will be my final goodbye to him. When his health starts to deteriorate, Mom's going to have him put to sleep.
I, um... I'm not sure what to say. Odie just turned 4 on November 18. He's been a cuddle-buddy, a fierce wrestler, and a lover of fine foods. I love him with all my heart and soul, and while I'm devastated to see him go, I'm at peace with the facts that there's no way we could have known and nothing else we could have done, and that he's had four very happy and pampered years living with us. There are no regrets.
Please, keep him in your thoughts and hope that his eventual passing will be peaceful. Thanks.
