My mood has been so up and down in the past two days. Jeez. I only want to mention one bit of the sad - RIP Ryan Dunn - and then focus on the happy, because damnit! Happy!

- I discovered an amazing blog over the weekend: Wave at the Bus. The 170 days are magical.

- Discovered another amazing blog as well: Mich L. in L.A.. I've already ordered one of her pieces, made my own versions of another (which I will post pictures of once I'm not sleepwalking through the day), and have plans to tackle yet one more. Good, good crafty blog.

- It wasn't enough that Nendoroid Snow Miku exists for me to pine after. No, they had to announce a Pullip version of her as well. Damn you, world!

- Any of you guys play Rockstar games? I'm eh on GTA but in love with L.A. Noire, and I'm wondering if Red Dead Redemption would be worth the investment.

- I'm torn between three different stories for my [livejournal.com profile] originalbigbang, all surreal, but in very different ways. Do I go with the humor, the horror, or the in-between?

Okay, backing up a bit to the sad. We're marathoning the Jackass movies. The golf cart sketch in the first one got a little uncomfortable, and I choked up during the butt x-ray, of all things, but still. We're on the second film, and I'm on my second beer. It only seems appropriate. To you, Mr. Dunn. You were right; it is cacti.

Madeline and Caroline - I have a scarf and shot glasses for you, respectively. E-mail or PM me shipping addresses, please?

Anyone else whose name ends with "line"? I'm sure I can figure out something to make for you.

As a side note, anyone have any advice for a girl who isn't on disability but feels like maybe she should be? A... uh... friend of mine... has a job that she's struggling just to show up for and she's not sure what to do. She has a long history of anxiety, depression, and PTSD, and she thinks she's in the middle of a major depressive episode, including having issues falling asleep before 4am but also randomly shutting down, just completely crashing, and sleeping during the middle of the day. She really doesn't want to work anymore; she wants to focus on not feeling so goddamn horrible all the time. But she needs the money. What do, flist. What do.

I just found out one of my friends from high school died in the tsunami in Japan. I lost a few friends when Derek and I broke up and Monty and his brother Ian were among them. It always kind of gnawed at me that I wasn't on good terms with those two - I liked them. I got along with them. They were good guys; I had hoped that we could reconcile and at least be on speaking terms someday. Now... shit.

Rest in peace, Monty.

Do you guys know anyone who'd like two tickets to see Bright Eyes in Orlando tonight? Jaime and I got them a while ago, but we're not gonna be able to make it, and I'd hate to see them go to waste. Seriously, no strings attached. Spread the word around?

I was just informed (via e-mail at 4pm on a Friday, the jerks) that I'm a TA this term. This in addition to the course where I have to follow a doctor around for half a day once a week and write biweekly reports and an 8-10 page final paper and the course taught by my co-advisor that has ten homeworks that are ungraded but will be answered on the board by random people in class, three exams, and a quiz every week that there's not an exam. Oh, and my normal research work in the lab, of course. And this is the term I have to do my qualifier, which consists of a 15-20 minute prequalifier presentation followed by questions on both my research and general topics, an 8-10 page paper, and another 15-20 minute presentation followed by even more questions.

And my advisor's on me about these results that I'm working as fast as is scientifically possible on. It's not my fault that it didn't work the first time - his golden boy did the transfection that crapped out, not me, and the solution that failed? Is in the same line as all the ones that work. It's just older. Which I had no way of knowing, as all of this was stocked before I got here and nobody said a thing about it when I was discussing my project. They didn't know it was too old, either. So... how could I have humanly known?!

Ugh. Science. What a load.

I'm currently sitting on concrete stairs outside an engineering building. I was up in the computer lab, alternately working on my light and laser homework and reading American Idol-related nonsense, but then - fire alarm. Let me tell, I have never seen people respond to the threat of incineration more slowly than the occupants of that computer lab. For a minute, I wasn't even sure if we were going to leave or not. We did, though, and now I'm seated outside in the Florida sun, listening to my skin cells scream out in anguish. I'm so going to end up with a sunburn. Ah well - all the more reason to hide inside after this. I don't think my tiny strip of sunburn from the beach is even healed yet. Why, Irish skin, why?!

I can't really see the screen with all the direct sunlight glinting off the dust and finger-oil streaks. Sure hope this isn't full of typos. Now, to grope around for the post button...

Can someone magically take over all my classes for me, please? Or replace me in the lab?

Or, alternately, can I just have more hours in the day?

Sheesh. Can't wait for all this to be sorted out.

Do you know how difficult it is to focus on work when you know in three days you'll be in Tampa so your boyfriend can get scans to make sure he's still in remission?

Back to attempted paper reading...

Well, it took me this long to end up staying up too late getting things done. I know, I know, 11:40 isn't that late, but I have class at 7:25 tomorrow morning. And a group meeting at 11 which I have not done the Powerpoint for yet (and really have no material with which to work) and will have to do after class in the lab. I was going to do it now, but I forgot to copy the images onto my lappy, and I'm just too tired and sore and half-sick-yet-again to ramble out into a dark living room, risking grievous bodily harm with every step, and retrieve my flash drive. It. Will. Wait.

I guess I got some reading done. That's good. And I think I know what I'll put on my slides. Also good. Oh, and dinner was great. Yeah. So, today was not a total loss? Sure, we'll go with that.
